Adult Depression
Depression can be highly distressing and at worst lead to thoughts of death. Symptoms of depression include:
- Low mood
- Feelings of worthlessness, guilt and despair
- Thoughts of suicide and self-harm
- Loss of interest and pleasure
- Sleep disturbance
- Difficulty concentrating
While medication may be recommended when symptoms are severe many people find side effects unpleasant and seek additional treatment that addresses the issues which underpin their suffering and explore alternate ways to live.
How we can help
We take a systemic approach to treating depression which understands that all difficulties are embedded in relationships past and present.
We explore past experiences that can lead to ways of thinking, behaving, and interacting that may have resulted in depression.
We also consider current relationships that might either perpetuate or potentially help stop depressive thoughts.
While initially we only meet with our client, we may sometimes invite others into the treatment process who can support change for the individual and the family.
