The attachment process is about life and death. About a baby attaching to an adult who sustains life and that person reciprocating. It is also about protecting the baby in the event of the carer’s death and equipping them to transfer this relationship to other adults who can sustain and nurture, both physically and emotionally.
This workshop will present a comprehensive and contemporary overview of the attachment process including physiological components and the socio-relational path of attachment through a child’s social world. It aims to explore and explain this fundamental aspect of being human as it relates to children, families and the wider world they inhabit. It will also consider how these processes may result in symptoms that present to practitioners and cause difficulties to children in their relationships with family, peers and at school.
