Introduction to Family Therapy and Systemic Practice
A 10 week short course providing students with knowledge of the key concepts of family therapy and systemic practice.
This course enables students to apply for General or Professional Membership with the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT).
The Introduction to Family Therapy Course is an ideal pathway to Bower Place’s Graduate Diploma of Family Therapy & Systematic Practice, a nationally recognised qualification accredited with AAFT.
Students who complete this short course can apply for a credit transfer for the first unit of the full Graduate Diploma.
Who can apply?
Applicants are required to:
- Have completed or be completing a bachelor degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling & Psychotherapy
- Completion of a TAFE SA Diploma qualification or vocational placement facilitated at Bower Place
- Have knowledge and a skill base in the human services, social and health sciences or relevant field
- Have relevant vocational experience in counselling, or family and systemic therapy Be practicing therapists, counsellors & teachers
When does the course begin?
The 10 week course runs in Term 1, 2, 3, or 4 of each calendar year. Students complete the online theoretical component while participating in the practical observation sessions at Bower Place’s Complex Needs Clinic on a weekly basis.
Alternatively, students can register at any time to complete the 10 week online theoretical component of the course. Contact time for the 10 practical observation sessions at Bower Place’s Complex Needs Clinic can be negotiated prior to achieving possible completion.
What is the cost of the course?
Full Fee – $1895*
Partial Scholarships are available to Bower Place Diploma Alumni and TAFE SA (students who have studied at Bower Place) Diploma Alumni – $500*
Placement student opportunity
Students undertaking a Master of Psychology, Social Work or Counselling & Psychotherapy placement at Bower Place can complete the online theoretical material for the Introduction to Family Therapy course during their placement.
Masters placement students wishing to obtain an academic transcript will be required to complete all theoretical assessments and attend 10 observation sessions within the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic. Payment for the total cost of the course will be required for a certificate of completion and transcript to be supplied.
