Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC43315)
Bower Place is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 0080: Heather Langton Pty Ltd trading as Bower Place Training and Education).
The Certificate IV in Mental Health is delivered over 42 weeks, this course offers a blended mode of practical training working with clients, combined with digital knowledge, theory and assessments. A vocational placement component (80 hours) is also included as part of the course with guaranteed placements.
The Certificate IV in Mental Health provides students with a comprehensive week by week program that includes extensive knowledge and theory work, workshop sessions, and ongoing practical client experience within a real-life complex needs clinic context.
This course is innovative and unique in that it provides students with practical client experience that is ongoing throughout the course. It offers opportunity to gain invaluable employability skills and work experience allowing students to apply theoretical components while they study.

How much contact time does the course entail?
- The course is delivered over 42 weeks, including 10 weeks non-contact time during SA school holiday term breaks.
- Contact days within the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic are scheduled throughout the duration of the course.
- Flexible options for rural, remote and other locations.
- The course duration includes 80 hours of vocational placement.
Candidates seeking entry to this course must complete the checklist below and provide evidence of ONE of the following:
- Successful completion of SACE
- Completed a Certificate III as defined by the Australian Qualification Framework or above
- Currently working or volunteering in the human services field where your industry relevant workplace is willing to support your application to study
- If employed in a relevant position in the field of human services, scheduled face to face sessions may be attended online or by completing a 3 x weeklong block placement in the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic over the year or a combination of both to be negotiated at enrolment.
When does the course begin?
The course has four intakes per year in line with South Australian School Terms. Organisations or agencies for groups of employee professional development training can negotiate intake dates.

Study Pathway
Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Mental Health gives students automatic entry into the Diploma of Counselling at Bower Place and 8-unit credits.
Only 9 extra units and hours vocational placement are required to obtain the full Diploma of Counselling qualification.

- Total course fee is $2,495.
- A payment by instalment plan is available for student fees.

Course Assessment
Students will have access to the following support while training with Bower Place:
- Access to Trainers and Assessors
- Guided group or 1 on 1 assessment support and mentoring
- Contextualisation and reasonable adjustment of assessments
- Access to re-attend classes, both theory and practical.
All assessments are undertaken in accordance with the requirements of the CHC Community Services Training Package, the National Vocational Requirements and all Government Funding Requirements (if applicable).

- Group Activities
- Practical (completed in the simulated Skills Lab)
- Work Placement (Completed as part of the course)
To be found competent in the qualification students must satisfactorily complete ALL assessment activities.
