How Can We Help?

Trauma and Rituals

< All Topics
Life changed in a lot of ways due to the recent pandemic, and one of the areas in our lives that has undergone transformation is our 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀.
No traveling to see family, no large gatherings, no hugging, no singing, no way to mark the annual and extraordinary transitions of our lives in the ways that we have traditionally done.
However, rituals and tradition perform an important social function. Everything from incidental greetings to big life events connect us to one another.
For those who have experienced trauma, particularly during their childhood years, traditions and rituals are often corrupted. The big holidays, birthdays, and other celebrations may hold different meanings for someone with trauma.
Bower Place hosted a presentation in 2021on responding to trauma by guest speaker Peg LeVine, a medical anthropologist, clinical psychologist, associate professor at the University of Melbourne, and Director of the Classic Morita Therapy Centre (CMC) in Melbourne.
