As therapists and support workers, weโre often giving advice and insight on complex topics.
Itโs our job to discuss nebulous ideas, like feelings, urges, and behavioural patterns, and itโs not always easy to find the words.
Clients need to hear advice in a way thatโs not only clear and understandable, but is also memorable, so itโs easy to recall as theyโre out living their lives.
In this video, Catherine and I explain โ๐ฟ๐๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ปโ and practical ways to break out of it using the analogy of a sealed off room.
Itโs an image thatโs easy to picture and understand, so clients who are struggling with overthinking and persistent anxieties can recognize whatโs actually happening when they ruminate.
Clients can also identify a clear solution using this analogy: open up the door or windows and let in some fresh air. Itโs a great reminder to speak with people you trust and get grounded when you catch yourself spiraling.
