How Can We Help?
Delusions
Referring to a person or group of people as ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น may have made its way into normal conversation, but in the mental illness space, treating someone who suffers from delusions is a very real challenge for practitioners.
Delusions arenโt simply mistaken impressions, but are unshakeable beliefs that certain events have happened despite all evidence to the contrary.
Therapists and other practitioners working with clients who experience delusions may find that common approaches are not only ineffective, but they even reinforce their clientโs belief in the delusion.
Delusions can be caused not only by biology or genetics, but also by environmental factors, such as drug and alcohol abuse.
We were fortunate to host a presentation by Dr. Lynette Rose, head of Marion Psychosis Unit, in September 2021 about the crisis of psychosis and substance abuse. She provided valuable insights for practitioners and professionals working in the social assistance space.
