The Difference Question is the most practical skill for generating the information required to turn a complex human problem or symptom around. It is a tool for enquiry and intervention. The Difference Question is dexterous and flexible – it concurrently captures the experience of patient/client with a symptom or problem, and the knowledge and experience of the practitioner about that symptom or problem and its circumstances. The Difference Question links patient/client experience to the knowledge and thinking of the practitioner. It is an essential tool for managing inequality in clinical practice.
