Symmetrical Escalation 

Pattern of interaction where a negative affect is met with negative affect, e.g. anger is met with more anger, contempt with more contempt, ignoring requests regarding children’s care met with more ignoring requests. This pattern of interaction tends to present in an escalating cycle, where each interaction cycle amplifies the next.
