Practitioner – Psychologist

Sze Yan is a psychologist registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).  She completed a Masters of Psychology (Health) degree and a PhD in the field of cancer survivorship, examining cancer identity and the media representation of people diagnosed with cancer.

Sze Yan has experience working with children, adolescents and adults with a range of mental health issues such as mood and anxiety issues, substance misuse, sleep problems, and developmental disorders (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder). She has also worked with individuals at risk of suicide and in crisis support. She has a particular interest in working with adults with physical health conditions and migrant families.

She primarily works from a family therapy and systemic perspective. She also has additional training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and incorporates elements of other therapeutic techniques such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Sze Yan can conduct psychometric assessments of children, adolescents and adults in the context of learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and behavioural issues.

Sze Yan’s clients are eligible to claim Medicare rebates when referred under a Mental Health Care Plan by a GP. Sze Yan also accepts clients referred under the NDIS.
