Josephine Colella

Practitioner – Mental Health Social Worker and Clinical Family Therapist

Josephine is a Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with experience in complex and comorbid mental health and is a Member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). She is also a Clinical Family Therapist Member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy Inc (AAFT). She has a Bachelor of Psychological Science, a Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Certificate IV in Mental Health, a Graduate Diploma of Family Therapy, and a Master of Social Work, and is a registered provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Josephine has experience working with individuals and families experiencing complex, comorbid symptoms and problems in a multi-systemic context. She also has worked with individuals at risk of suicide and those bereaved by suicide, in crisis support, and with adults, youth and children with mental health issues. Josephine works with children, adolescents and adults and couples with a range of mental health and personal issues such as relationship and family problems, experiences of trauma, alcohol and other drug issues, developmental disorders, (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder), and learning and attention problems (e.g., Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). As a family therapist, Josephine has a passion for working with families of all different configurations.

Her passion for encouraging mentally healthy communities led Josephine to her studies in Psychology and Social Work.

Working primarily from a family therapy and systemic perspective, Josephine integrates other evidence-based therapeutic approaches to create positive outcomes for clients. She also works collaboratively with families, schools, GPs, child protection, and other professionals depending on her clients’ needs.

Josephine is able to consult under Medicare’s Better Access to Mental Health Scheme.

Josephine is course facilitator for Bower Place Family Therapy and Systemic Practice Training Programmes.
